Import
Process
A Carnet de Passages en Douane (CPD) is required. Read our CPD article for the application process.
- Monday: send the agent a photograph of your Malaysian immigration entry stamp by 10am. The agent then arranges the softcopy International Circulation Permit (ICP), also called the Foreign Vehicle Permit. The ICP is required before Customs clearance.
- Tuesday: attend PKFZ for motorcycle collection and Customs processing. Allow approximately four to six hours, depending on rider numbers.
- Wednesday: attend the morning JPJ inspection with the agent’s staff member. It must be completed within 48 hours of Customs clearance.
- Thursday: allow as a buffer if the ICP or earlier process is delayed.
Third-party insurance, ICP and JPJ inspection
Third-party insurance, the ICP and the JPJ inspection are the motorcycle owner’s responsibility. However, to reduce delay risk, OBO’s agent coordinates all those as a mandatory additional service. The itemised charges are payable on motorcycle collection day and will be confirmed before booking.
Total estimate for 30 days: AU$215. Costing as follows:
- MYR150 (AU$50) brokerage fee for insurance.
- MYR70 (AU$25) averaged cost of 30 days insurance for last season's motorcycles. The exact cost depends on the motorcycle and duration.
- MYR400 (AU$140) brokerage fee for the ICP (30 days) and JPJ inspection. This includes an Agent staff member to assist with the inspection because there is generally no English-speaking staff at JPJ.
Storage
PKFZ storage is MYR6 per motorcycle per day (approximately AU$2 per day) from container unpack, payable on collection.

- 6 January 2027: Brisbane container pack.
- 8 January: Sydney container pack.
- 11 January: Melbourne container pack.
- 15 January: Perth container pack.
- 1 February: estimated vessel arrival at Port Klang.
- 4 February: planned container unpack.
- 11-day schedule buffer.
- 15 February: motorcycles ready to collect.
Malaysian holiday periods significantly affect government agency availability. OBO does not plan motorcycle clearance during these weeks, identified by their Monday start date:
- Monday 8 February 2027: Chinese New Year holiday period begins around Friday 5 February
- Monday 22 February 2027: Nuzul Al-Quran public holiday week
- Monday 8 March 2027: Hari Raya Aidilfitri period at the end of Ramadan
Export
Process
The CPD must be valid when the motorcycle is delivered to Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ). The Malaysia exit process will be completed there.
For non-Australian-registered motorcycles being shipped to Australia, the CPD must remain valid for at least two months after import into Australia to allow time for an extension through the Australian Automobile Association (AAA).
For Australian-registered motorcycles, the CPD may expire after the motorcycle has completed export from Malaysia at PKFZ. You will need a reimportation approval notice for Australia. Read our motorcycle re-importation approval article.
